Train is a popular kind of transportation from Hanoi to Hue. The railway between the two cities is 688 kilometers and it takes from 13 to 14 hours to get from Hanoi to Hue by train. There are 8 daily departures from Hanoi to Hue offered by SE1, SE3, SE5, and SE7, which are operated by Reunification Express Train. There often 3 departures in the morning in 6 am, 8 am and 9 am, only one departure in the afternoon in 2:30 pm, and 4 ones in the evening in 7:30 pm, 8:10 pm, 8:45 pm and 10 pm. You can choose from various kinds of seat on train from soft seat, hard sleeper to soft sleeper with different prices. The price depends on the time of departure and the kind of seat. The cheapest train ticket from Hanoi to Hue is $33 for the soft seat, the most expensive is $68 for the soft sleeper of the SE1 Hanoi – Hue (Livitrans Express) departing at 19:30.

Bus is also a top choice to travel from Hanoi to Hue. The bus road from Hanoi to Hue is 657,9 km and it takes almost 13-15 hours on the bus. The ticket price is not stable as the train price, it depends on the type of seat, and mostly on the date you travel. If you travel on holidays, the ticket price is much higher than usual days. From Hanoi to Phong Nha

There is no direct train from Hanoi to Phong Nha. You have to take a train from Hanoi to Dong Hoi, the city of Quang Binh province, then take a bus from Dong Hoi to Phong Nha with around 1 hour and a half. Despite this inconvenience, train is recommended than buses because it is safer. Your train route will last more than 10 hours. There are 10 daily train from Hanoi to Dong Hoi with SE7, SE11, SE5, SE9, SE3, SE19, SE17, QB1, QB3, SE1, operated by Vietnam Railways. Three of these trains depart in the morning at 6 am , 8 am and 9 am; one departs in the afternoon at 2:30 pm; six depart in the evening at 7:30 pm, 8:10 pm, 8:45 pm, 9:25 pm, 9:55 pm and 10:20 pm in the high season. The price is not all the same, the cheapest one is $27 for the soft seat and the most expensive is $45-$48 for the soft sleeper of the last train of the day.

If you want a direct route from Hanoi to Phong Nha, bus is the best option for you, the price is also cheaper than train ticket, from $18-20. Tourist buses on this route are usually sleeper buses, they depart at 18:00 pm and arrive in Phong Nha at 4:30 am the next day. Some depart at 7:00 pm and arrive at 5:00 am. Several popular bus companies for this route are Phong Nha Bus, Queen Bus, etc., If you decide to buy the local bus ticket yourself, choose the buses carefully, especially at bus stations, many will try to cheat you to get to their terrible but high-cost buses.

From Hanoi to Hoi An

Even though there is no direct train traveling from Hanoi to Hoi An, this is the most recommended way. You will have the chance to witness many comfort and nice sceneries during the journey, the best part is between Hue and Da Nang when you just wake up in the morning. The train will only take you from Hanoi to Da Nang City. After getting off the train, you have to take a shuttle bus or taxi from Da Nang to Hoi An. There are around 8 daily trains from Hanoi to Hoi An which depart at 6 am, 8 am, 9 am, 2:30 pm, 7:30 pm, 8:10 pm, 8:45 pm and 10:20 pm. The distance is almost 800 km and you will spend from 17 to 18 hours on the train. The cheapest train ticket for this route is $37 for soft seat, and the highest one is $80 for soft sleeper with Livitrans Express. Sleeper 4 berth per cabin is the most recommended one, the price for this kind of ticket is more than $60.

Or you can choose to take a direct tourist bus from Hanoi to Hoi An. This is the cheapest one, although it is not as safe and comfortable as train. Sleeping buses depart daily at 5:30 or 6 pm and take around 19 hours to arrive in Hoi An in the next day noon. Cost is around 25$ per ticket.

From Hanoi to Sapa

Night train is the most popular transportation from Hanoi to Sapa, just enjoy your night on the train and wake up freshly in the high place. Yet the train only reaches Lao Cai train station, so you have to take bus from Lao Cai to Sapa after getting off the train. The trains for this route are limited, there are only 2 night trains which depart daily at 21:35 and 22:00 pm and arrive at Lao Cai after 8-9 hours in the morning next day. The soft-sleeper ticket price is from $28 to $45, depending on the kind of train that you choose. There are tourist train or Reunification train, cabin type can be 4 berth sharing or 2 berth sharing (VIP cabin).

Unlike train, there are many direct buses from Hanoi to Sapa, both in daytime and night time. The day buses take around 5.5-6 hours and the night buses may take more than 6 hours to travel from Hanoi to Sapa. The ticket price for one person is around $15-25$. Buses from Hanoi to Sapa are considered quite convenient. There are 2 stops along the way where to have food and drinks, wifi is also available but not look forward high speed, some even have an English speaking attendant.

But if you want to travel at night, train is much more recommended because you can sleep well to begin your fresh next day in Sapa as it’s more comfortable.

From Hanoi to Nha Trang

There are around 6 daily trains from Hanoi to Nha Trang City, which depart at 6 am, 8 am and 9 am in the morning, 2:30 pm in the afternoon, and 7:30 and 10:20 in the evening. The ticket price is from $52 to $80, depending on the type of seat and the time of departure. The journey by train takes you more than 26 hours.

Another good option for travelling from Hanoi to Nha Trang is bus. Most of the buses for this route depart in the afternoon, around 5pm, and it takes more than 36 hours to get to Nha Trang City. You can get a sleeper bus ticket from Hanoi to Nha Trang from $40-$43.

From Hanoi to Quy Nhon

If you want to travel from Hanoi to Quy Nhon by train, you have to take a taxi or a public bus from Dieu Tri to Quy Nhon because the train station is at the end of a spur connecting to the main line 15 km north at Dieu Tri. There are 6 daily train from Hanoi to Dieu Tri which depart in the morning, afternoon and night. The journey will last around 22-23 hours with the price from $49 to $73 for one person.

Bus is the cheapest option for travelling from Hanoi to Quy Nhon. The price is from $17 – $35 and the average travel time is 23 hours. You can take a bus in the morning, afternoon or evening, depending on your travelling schedule. There are a lot of motels surrounding the bus station in Quy Nhon so you can easily book one after getting off the bus.

From Hanoi to Saigon

If you choose to get a train from Hanoi to Saigon, you will have a 1727km journey in around 33 hours. There are 6 daily train routes from Hanoi to Saigon which operated by Vietnam Railways. They depart at 6am, 8am and 9am in the morning, 2:30 pm in the afternoon, 7:30 pm and 10:20 pm in the evening. You can get the ticket with price from $57 to $84 depending on which type of seat and the time of departure you choose.
