Cau-Pagoda

Located at the junction of Nguyen Thi Minh Khai and Tran Phu street, Cau Pagoda impresses tourists for its special architectural style bold Vietnamese characteristics, ancient roof covered bridge made by wood with a length about 18m. At the main door of this ancient pagoda there is a large plate embossed with three Chinese characters, Lai Vien Kieu. The special feature of this pagoda is not worshiping the Buddha like other typical pagodas in Vietnam, which is worshiping Tran Vo, the god that gives happiness to Hoi An people, expressing the special spiritual aspirations of Hoi An.

Cau-Pagoda

Cau pagoda’s roof has the special architecture, and the two sides of Cau pagoda have narrow corridors to make a resort with seven wooden compartments. The main side of the pagoda is overlooking to the romantic Thu Bon River. The Cau pagoda is made of wood, lacquered and engraved with very elaborate motifs, harmonizing between Vietnamese, Chinese and Japanese architectural styles. The head of the Cau pagoda has a wooden statue standing, one is a dog statue, one is a monkey head status. It is said that these animals are worshiped by the Japanese people, and may have originated from the thought that the pagoda was built from the year of dog to monkey lunar year to the completion.
