Thay Pagoda is also known as “Thien Phuc Tu” in Sai Son commune, Quoc Oai district, Ha Tay province, about 30 km from Southwest of Hanoi.
Thay Pagoda really attract tourists for the beauty of its natural landscapes and historical values. Located about 20km from the center of Hanoi, Thay Pagoda is located at the bottom of Sai Son Mountain, or Thay Mountain, Phat Tich Mountain, in Sai Son Commune, Quoc Oai District, former Ha Tay Province. In the space of mountains and majestic hill, Thay pagoda is peaceful, and extremely quiet. This ancient temple is associated with the story of teacher Tu Dao Hanh, who has a great contribution in teaching, healing the people and founding the water puppetry.
The temple was built relatively spacious typically with curved roof and the unique architectural style of the Tam character, including Ha, Trung, and Thuong Pagodas. Covering the pagoda are colorful creatures with a green lake and blooming flowers, a house with a water puppet show and two small bridges, Nhat Tien, in the direction of Tam temple, and Nguyet Tien leading to the mountain. The presence of the statue of master is sophisticated carvings harmonizing with cherry blossoms, which create the unique gracious beauty in here.
Thay Pagoda Festival takes place from the 5th to the 7th of the third lunar month. During the festival, many monks from other parts of the Vietnamese regions will attend the ceremony and do chanting. The worship of the Buddha and a religious culture will be performed in the Festival with some typical national instruments.
Otherwise, the festival is also well-recognized for its water puppet show with bold shades of folk symphony that is being resonated in many countries.
