Noi Bai International Airport (HAN) is an airport of the Hanoi capital with a very important and convenient economic, political and geographical position. Which is located in Phu Minh Commune, Soc Son District, Hanoi, about 40km north of the city center.
It is an ideal stopover point in the network of flights from Europe and the South. Asia to Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, and Asia-Pacific – a potential economic boom. On the other hand, it is located in the relatively temperate climate of the North, together with many scenic spots that are particularly attractive to tourists.
Hanoi Airport, is one of the three largest international airports in Vietnam besides Tan Son Nhat International Airport and Da Nang International Airport. Hanoi Airport includes T1 and T2 terminals. Terminal T1 has been in use since 2001.
From January 2015, Noi Bai Airport has added T2 terminal to meet the increasing demand of passengers. Accordingly, T1 terminal serves domestic flights and T2 terminal serves international flights.
Currently, Noi Bai International Airport has 32 domestic and foreign airlines regularly operating in 15 provinces and cities in the country and 34 territories and cities in the world.
How to travel from Hanoi airport to Hanoi city area?
Hanoi airport or Noi Bai Airport is located around 40km from the city centre. There are various transportations to reach the centre Hanoi from Noi Bai airport and vice versa. They are taxi, airport bus shuttle, and public buses.
– Taxi: Taxi is easy to find out when you step out of the arrivals exit gate. There are many brand names so you should consider which one is best. The price from Noi Bai airport to the city center is about 330,000 VND ($15) and you can request taxi drop you off at your hotel. Popular brand names of taxi operators are Mai Linh, Noi Bai airport, Viet Thanh, etc.
Tips for a cheaper price:
+ When you travel alone, try to find out other passengers who are ready to take taxi with you so that you can share the price.
+ Some cars only take passengers to airport but they are not used to pick up passengers from the airport, like Thanh Nga. Therefore, the payment depends on the taxi driver. You can bargain with the taxi driver to get a cheaper price, from 200,000 – 250,000 VND only. However, you have to walk further to the gate outside.
– Airport shuttle bus: There are shuttle bus with 45 seats run by Vietnam Airlines, Jetstar and VietjetAir. You can catch one bus after leaving right outside the domestic terminal. These buses will drop you off at Quang Trung Street if you take a Vietnam Airlines bus, at Tran Nhan Tong Street if you take a Vietjet Air bus, and Tran Quang Khai Street if you take a Jetstar bus. The price is 40,000 VND ($2) in one way. Compared to taxi, this way is cheaper, however, you may have to wait until the bus is full and still need to take a taxi or motorbike taxi to get to your hotel. You also can take these buses from Hanoi centre to the airport but you cannot get off in the middle.
– Airport city bus: From 2016, bus number 86 & 90 running from Noi Bai airport to Hanoi Railway station (86) and from Noi Bai airport to Kim Ma bus station via Nhat Tan bridge which bring the best convenience for tourists when you want to get to the city centre by city bus, cost is only 30.000 VND/person/way. It takes around 45 min to 1 hour.
– City buses: Using public bus is the cheapest option to transport between Hanoi center and Noi Bai airport. There are some buses you can find such as bus no.7, bus no.9, and bus no.17. The ticket price is about 7,000 – 9,000 VND. It runs often, every 10 to 15 minutes and from 5am to 10pm. Although this transportation method is cheap and more frequency, it is not convenient for passengers who bring a large amount of luggage. Moreover, you still have to grab a taxi or motorbike taxi to go to your hotel.
