My Son sanctuary is the reputable tourism destination in Da Nang recognized by UNESCO along with Hoi An old quarter as the top world cultural heritage. My Son Sanctuary is located in Duy Phu Commune, Duy Xuyen District, Quang Nam Province, about 70 km from Southwest of Da Nang, and 40 km from Hoi An City, surrounded by hills and mountains, and located in mountain ranges about 100m to 400m from the East of Truong Son Mountains through My Son to Tra Kieu. Tourists acknowledge My Son sanctuary as the place of Champa Kingdom where the mysterious dedication ceremonies held annually.

The sophisticated architecture of My Son sanctuary is the first attraction for tourists in here. The structure of My Son sanctuary is divided into several clusters constructed according to the same principle. Each cluster’ architecture design consists of a main temple, surrounded by small towers or ancillary buildings. The main My Son temple stands for Meru – the center of the universe as the place that converges the gods and the worship of Siva. The Temples, and Cham towers built of brick, grafted with sandstone decorated panels. They are aligned with each other and mysterious adhesive. After the tower was built, new sculptors began carving flowers, figures, animals … up to the tower, creating the unique and solemn beauty of the spiritual architecture in My Son sanctuary.

Besides, it seems to be surprised because Cham sculpture is rarely seen in other arts of My Son sanctuary. All the temples and substructures are built of bricks with a delicate technique. Also, decorative motifs on the pillars, along with round statues and sandstone carvings, are based on Hindu myths and harmoniously combined with exquisite carvings of elaborate motifs. The brick wall outside the tower has made the My Son temple a lively picture of Champa style of art. The highlight of Cham sculpture is to express the vitality of human beings with inner peace, calm, or anxiety. For that reasons, though the temples in here are no longer intact, My Son sanctuary is still the best proof to perform the development of Cham art. Having said that, a significant relic along with historic values of My Son sanctuary plays a very important role contributing to the specialty of Southeast Asian art and culture.
