Museum of Ethnology, the place of the identity, customs and culture of many ethnic groups throughout Vietnam.
Vietnam Museum of Ethnology is located on an area of over 4 hectares, started construction in late 1987 and inaugurated in 1997. This is a project designed by architect Ha Duc Linh and the French architect Véronique Dollfus, consisting of three main display areas: the Drum Tower, the outdoor display area and the Southeast Asian exhibition area.

The display area in the 2.500m² Dong drum building is divided into nine themes: general introduction; Vietnamese-Muong language group; Thai-Kadai group; group Mong – Dao; Sino-Tibetan group; the Mon-Khmer group; South Island group; Cham, Hoa, Khmer ethnic groups and exchanges and integration among ethnic groups.

The outdoor gallery introduces the architectural styles typical of the Vietnamese ethnic groups (Ede house, Tay stilt house, Hmong loft house, brick house of Kinh people), Gia-Rai tomb house, Ba Na house for communal house, Ha Nhi house, …).

The Southeast Asian Gallery is dedicated to introducing the rich cultural landscape of Southeast Asian nations in five themes: cloth, daily life, social life, performing arts and religious life. religion – beliefs.

With 15,000 artifacts, 42,000 films and color photos, 2190 positive films, 273 audio tapes, music, 373 video tapes and 25 CD-Roms, the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology is not only an attractive place to visit, study, and experience the culture of ethnic Vietnam, but also to introduce and honor in a most formal and detailed way the identity, customs and culture of many ethnic groups throughout Vietnam.

It is also home to a variety of folk cultural performances in Vietnam, Southeast Asia and other parts of the world. The area in the building is a space for introducing culture of 54 ethnic groups, spread over 2 floors. On the first floor, visitors will learn about the Vietnamese people through their residence. Then, they will visit each group of ethnic groups such as Vietnamese, Muong, Tho, Chut … Each ethnic group will be shown clearly through the exhibits, images and videos vivid illustrations. Many visitors are very interested in learning about the Muong folk customs, how to make the conical hat of the Vietnamese, the process of weaving cloth Dao or wedding ceremony of the Mong. The second floor is a place where exhibits of other ethnic minorities such as Tay, Nung, Thai, Lo Lo, Xo Lanh and Giarai are displayed along the length of the country from north to south.
