Weather in Myanmar by Season

The hottest time is from February to May, when the weather in Myanmar is good, the rain is scarce, if not completely absent, and the temperature can climb to 40°C, especially in the months of March and April, leading up to the rainy season. During this season, Yangon and the south and west parts experience rain much more frequently than any other parts of the country, thus high humidity and temperatures are expected. While in the lower-central parts, where lay Bagan and Mandalay, which are considered the dry zone of the country, where rains get more sporadic, meaning it is more likely to get some more sunshine here during the rainy season. The upper-central, north and east parts of the country tend to have a fluctuation in temperature throughout the day, meaning daytime can have very high temperature and intense sun, while the evening gets cooled off pretty fast and can get quite chilled sometimes.
The rainy season is from May to October, in which tourists should bring umbrellas or raincoats when going out. Though the beginning of the rainy season, May and June can still be very hot. In Yangon and the south and west parts, these months are likely to bring about, again, high humidity and a lot of heavy rains that can close roads and cause delays of transportation. And not only that, this kind of weather will also carry with it mosquitos, hence malaria and dengue fever, so you should as well take it into consideration. Meanwhile, the lower parts of the country suffer the most during the hot season with extreme temperatures. And the northern parts can witness moderate rains, which are less frequent and intense compared to the south, and lower temperatures.
Finally, the cool dry season starts from the end of October to February, when the weather is quite stable across the country. Then you should bring with you a light jacket and scarf, especially when going out during the night.
Moreover, as a general rule, temperature gets lower at higher altitudes. That is why it can get quite close to freezing in the north part of the country such as Chin State and Shan State, and it can even drop below zero in the Himalayan far north. So if you are travelling to the further north of Myanmar, make sure to take warmer clothes with you, especially during the cool reason.

Best time to travel

It is said that from November to February is the best time to visit Myanmar, since the weather in Myanmar is cool and not rainy. As a consequence, these are also the busiest and most crowded time due to the huge number of tourists, thus securing accommodation can be quite troublesome. If you travel to Myanmar sometime between February and May, consider travelling to the central, north and west parts, since it will be more comfortable there, where the heat is not that intense as the south. During the rainy season, also avoid travelling to the south, since the transportation is likely to be shut down due to the rain, and head to the north of Yangon instead.
