The Vietnamese often put the stone dog in front of the gate as a mascot with the meaning of blessing, exorcising and considered as a god. Stone dogs in the temples and pagodas are often larger. Stone Dog Islet is keeping a very important role in the religious and spiritual life of the fishermen here. Because the stone dog island not only brings the natural beauty of the creator, but also delivers beliefs in people’s life. The local people in Ha Long supposed that this Stone Dog Islet has protected and defended fishermen so that they will have the safe trips to the sea with full-of-fish boats.
The Stone Dog Islet is about 8 meters high, like a like a giant gatekeeper. The lower part of the Stone Dog Islet is similar to a platform for the stone dog god. The position of the stone dog is understood to be a reign of a dog sitting back to the sea. It has been sitting there for millions of years watching for the tourists to go to sea.
