The Shwedagon Pagoda, also known as the Golden Pagoda, is one of the most popular attractions for tourists visiting Myanmar. The temple is located in the center of Yangon. Shwedagon is considered the most sacred temple in Myanmar.
This temple is 2500 years old, it had been established before the Buddha died, the temple is considered the most sacred temple in Myanmar. However, archaeologists said this pagoda was first built between the sixth and the 10th century.

The Shwedagon Pagoda located on the top of Singuttara Hill is majestic and impressive. All The four directions have long stairs leading to the temple. The giant golden tower is extremely high. The south gate of the pagoda has a lion statue of 9 meters, facing the center of the city.
This famous temple holds four sacred treasures for Buddhists. They are the stick, the water filter, a piece of cloth and eight hairpieces of Shakyamuni Buddha.

In the daylight as well as in the evening, the golden temple always emits glittering golden light. The architectural details of the temple are very elaborate.
The golden tower divided into three main sections: the tower bottom, tower body and tower top. The tower is made of bricks, inlaid with thin gold plates. The golden leaves attached to the tower by rivets, gold plated around the tower is the golden plate inlaid by traditional techniques. The lower and the upper half of the tower covered with golden leaves. The top of the tower crowned with diamonds, rubies, sapphires and other gemstones. On the top of the tower, there is a diamond.
There are seven water tanks corresponding to seven planets and seven days a week. That is where people with birthdays coincide that day coming to bathe the Buddha statue.

1. When visiting the temple, all people must remove their shoes and socks.
2. Dress politely, and do not say rudely.
3. If you are a woman and want to travel to Myanmar to visit famous temples, remember that women are not allowed to come here, and do not touch sacred objects in the praying areas of the monks. When you want to give something to the monks, you have to put a handkerchief on your hand not to touch the monks.
The temple has long been a place of pilgrimage for Buddhist followers of Myanmar. The Burmese usually travel around the tower in the clockwise direction.
