Military Hospital Cave on Cat Ba Island, Hai Phong

Military hospital cave is situated in Cat Hai island district, 13km from Cat Ba town. Around the 60s, the cave was built as a hospital to serve as a place for healing of wounded soldiers and it was also the bomb shelter of local residents and evacuated residents from Bach Long Vy Island. The cave has a special structure with stalactites and limestone mountains formed by sediment. The sparkling stalactites, together with the light in cave have created a mystery space. The whole structure of the Military hospital cave is kept intact. Inside the cave is the vast space of the hospital, however when coming on, tourists will feel a bit dark due to lack of light.

Located at an altitude of about 100 m above sea level with the door facing the Khe Sau valley, visitors wanting to go to the cave have to take the small road as indicated by the sign, then climb on the iron ladder to the cave entrance. This cave has 3 floors, lying in the heart of the mountain, including meeting room, operating room, medicine room, kitchen,… Among these, the first floor is the main area, the second floor is the movie theater and physical examination area, the third floor is the reception hall, the guard room and the officer’s room. In particular, between the first floor, there are two ways to the second and the third floors with very narrow places, this makes it difficult for the enemy to attack. At the end of the tunnel on the first floor are two large iron doors against the assault and attack. These are also the doors behind the mountain of the cave, filled in the stalactites.
In recent years, cave tourism in Cat Ba is becoming a product attracting more and more visitors. Especially, with the historical values and architectural values created by the combination of nature and human hands, Military hospital cave is becoming an attractive place in the trip to Cat Island. This cave is not only the pride of the military medical in Vietnam but also a place to attract domestic and international tourists.
