Located about 1.5km south of Bagan center, the Htilominlo temple is one of the five oldest ancient pagodas in Bagan. This temple is the symbol of temples and pagodas of Myanmar. Featuring majestic structure, the Htilominlo temple has three storeys, 46 meters high, and well preserved.

This temple is located in a low hill, built and designed proportionately. The design of the temple makes up the cube from high to low with three steps. In the second part, the cubes are gradually smaller and piled high up to the top. There are small stupas in the corners.

Htilominlo-Temple

The Htilominlo temple bears typical architecture of temples and pagodas in Bagan. This temple has been constructed completely in in 1211 under King Htillominlo. Therefore, this temple is named after this King. In 1975, the Htilominlo temple was remodeled to preserve its cultural and architectural value. The whole Htilominlo temple is built of brick, originally plastered white, now some mortar is still not available. The carved images depict many images as mythical characters, Makara creatures. The wall of the temple carved on terracotta tiles depicts Jataka stories, stories of the Buddha’s life. However, due to the impact of time, many pieces of this engraved wall are no longer available. The corners of the base eventually create an entrance into the temple and meticulously decorated.
