From Thailand to Laos, the means by which visitors can choose to go include airplane, bus and train. In the vehicles mentioned above the busiest is the bus, the bus is the best means of transportation and the train is the means of bringing the most experience.

1. By plane:

Transportation in Thailand

There are currently six flights per day from Bangkok (Suhanabhumi Airport – BKK or Don Muang Airport – DMK) to Vientiane (VTE), which takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Airlines operating this route include Thai Air Asia, Laos Airlines, Thai Airways, Bangkok Airways. In these countries, Laos Airlines has the most frequent flights, but the frequency of flights is different (flight time, day of flight), along with Thai Airways with two flights a day, Thai Air Asia and Bangkok Airways every day with one trip.
The plane departs from Suhanabhumi Airport or Don Muang (except Thai Air Asia flies from Don Muang, the rest depart from Suhanabhumi) and stops at Vientiane Airport.

2. By bus:

There are several ways to get from Thailand to Laos:
– Take Morchit to Udonthani, then from Udonthani to Vientiane.
– Take the car from Morchit station (Bangkok) to Nong Khai and from Nong Khai car to Vientiane, if you do not go to the car, then tuk tuk to border crossing between Thailand – Laos (Friendship Bridge). From here, take a 10-minute ride. From Laos border gate to Vientiane about 20 km, there are bus / taxi right at the gate to go.
Note: Thail and Lao authorities are forbidden to cross the bridge, so it is mandatory to go by car. Nong Khai is bordered by Laos.

3. By train:

Take the train is not fast by plane, nor fast by the bus ride straight but this is a experience that many visitors choose when traveling from Thailand to Laos.
Speaking of which is the train, but visitors also have to move some new routes to where they need to, specifically:
Exit the Hua Lamphong Station (train station near Bangkok’s Chinatown) and take the train to Nong Khai. There is morning train (8h20) and evening (18h00 and 20h00), traveling time is 10-11 hours (depending on time). Usually to save time, many visitors will choose to take the night train, sleep overnight on the train.
From Nong Khai station, you go to the border gate, enter Laos and take a bus to Vientiane or take a bus from Nong Khai to Vientiane.
Finally, here are some tips to travel from Thailand to Laos:
1. From the North:
Laos’ border is Huay Xai and Thailand’s border is Chiang Khong (which is on the route from Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai).
Your route should be organized as follow:
Travel from Bangkok to Huay Xai and then board the bus at Huay Xai.
2. From the North East:
Through the Lao – Thai Border (The Friendship Bridge), take a tuk tuk to Vientiane. After that, you should catch a train between Bangkok and Nong Khai. The, you take both bus and tuk tuk to get from the Nong Khai. From Vientiane, you can buy tickets to board the train.
3. From the East:
Via Ubon Ratchatani, you can go through Pakse directly. At the border crossing, it will take you about 2 hours to get on a bus.
