Driving License for Foreigners in Vietnam

(Following Article 53 of Circular No. 58/2015 / TT-BGTVT dated 20 October 2015 on the training and examination of the granting of motor vehicle driving licenses by the Minister of Communications and Transport. Circular No. 73/2012 / TT-BTC dated 14 May 2012 amending and supplementing Circular 76/2004 / TT-BTC dated 29 July 2004 providing guidance on fees and charges in the field of road traffic. 1. Necessary condition:

The Foreigner who lawful residents or work or study in Vietnam more than 3 months.
The license for foreign driving has all the necessary elements: expiry date, the class of vehicles allowed to be controlled, no signs of erasing or tearing, no difference in identification;
Do not convert temporary foreign driving license, international driving license.

2. The file (the driver made 01 set and sent directly to the Department of Communications of the place of residence, stay, temporary residence or long-term residence) shall include:

An application for a driver’s license convert, make according to a set form (for foreigners)
Translate abroad driver license into Vietnamese, which insured translation quality of the notary public of the State or Embassies, Consulates, Representative offices of international organizations in Vietnam that the translation works, and stamped with a photocopy of driver license.
A copy of the passport (including the passport number, full name and photo of the grantee, duration of use and entry visa entry into Vietnam);
Copies of one of the following documents: residence card, residence card, temporary residence card, permanent residence card, and permanent residence certificate in Vietnam.
Three photos in 3x4cm size.
When filing procedure for converting the driver license, you must present the abroad driver license and passport (or diplomatic or public affairs identity card provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam) for comparison with profile.
