The Dhammayangyi Temple is one of the ruins in the list of more than two thousand preserved ruins of the archaeological site of Myanmar. The Dhammayangyi Temple was constructed by King Narathu in 1170. Perhaps, Narathu King could not have imagined that this great and promising pagoda would not be completed. Three years after his death, he was murdered. This pagoda was uninhibited. However, this is still a unique representation of the ancient Bagan as well as the history of the development in this area.
The Dhammayangyi Temple is famous for its large pyramid shape. This pyramid model is completely different from the structure of traditional temples and Buddhist temples of Myanmar.

According to some documents, although not completed, this temple has cost approximately 6 million bricks, not to mention the stone system as the basis for this massive building. The Dhammayangyi pagoda grounds are 78 meter wide, while the central area is 25 meter wide, connected by a wide corridor with dome and false door systems. The roof system of the temple was built by laying bricks up, showing that the ancients were very good at the design and construction of the temple. When excavating the temple, archaeologists discovered, bricks filled with corridors were also the brick used to build the temple. Each main door of the temple is the large statue of Buddha with many styles in gold or painted. At present, in the Dhammayangyi temple, there are many sealed rooms, tourists can only visit the corridor, the archway of the outer area.
The Dhammayangyi temple is located in the center of Bagan. If you want to travel to Bagan and visit the Dhammayangyi temple, you can fly by airplane from Yangon, catch a train from Yangon or Mandalay to Bagan or go by boat on the Irrawaddy River. The weather in Bagan is always dry year round and there is no rainy season, you can visit the Dhammayangyi Temple at any time, however, the most appropriate time is from November to February next year. You should spend at least 3 hours to half a day to visit the Dhammayangyi temple and neighboring attractions in the Bagan area.
