This is a sacred pilgrimage site of the Catholics.
Saint Mary Cathedral is a place of communication between God and man. The symbolic natural elements in Catholicism appear in works that make up the church’s spirituality as well as increase its sanctity. When believers acquire the world and the spiritual state of man, that place will become self-evident without the attraction of the outside charisma.
Saint Mary Cathedral was recognized as a World Heritage Site in 1996. It is a Catholic Cathedral located on Bo Aung Kyaw Street in Botahtaung Town, Yangon City, Myanmar. It is considered to be the largest Cathedral in Myanmar. The Saint Mary Cathedral is a typical example of colonial architecture and heritage. This cathedral located on the premises of Saint Mary Cathedral Secondary School No. 6, also known as “Saint Paul’s High School”, although today the school is no longer affiliated with the Catholic Church.
Saint Mary Cathedral was designed by a Dutch architect Joseph Cuypers. This Cathedral has been constructed for 5 years, from 1895 to 1899.
