Wat Long Khoun has been known as the ‘Monastery of the Happy’; which is located near the river on the banks of Mekong. Wat Long Khoun has a critical relation to the Luang Prabang family.
Wat Long Khoun ‘s architecture is similar to the architecture of other temples in Laos during the 18th century. Wat Long Khoun Temple has two parts. The front part was broadened in 1937. It has more sophisticated structure and gives prominence to gilded columns as well as elaborate wood carvings. Another part, which is an older part, includes Jataka murals. However, it was damaged in the 1970s due to revolutionary vandalism and the unfavorable weather.

Wat Long Khoun temple was constructed in the 18th century, which is opposite to Wat Xieng Thong. The Lao Department of Museums and Archaeology associated with the Ecole Française d’Extrême Orient making efforts to maintain and preserve its beauty and historical architecture.
