From Ninh Binh to Hanoi
Ninh Binh is only 90 km from Hanoi in the South, so it is really easy to get from this province to the capital of Vietnam. You can choose to travel by train or bus, both are absolutely inexpensive and comfortable.
There are 6 daily trains from Ninh Binh to Hanoi which are SE2 (departing at 3:20 am), SE20 (departing at 9:24 am), SE8 (departing at 1:12 pm), SE6 (departing at 4:51 pm), SE 36 (departing at 5:38 pm), and SE12 (departing at 6:09 pm) (a typical schedule). It takes you only more than 2 hours to arrive at the Hanoi Railway Station. And the ticket price is also only from $11 to $15, the prices for different kinds of seat from the soft seat to the soft sleeper.
For the buses, there is also a wide range of bus types, from the cheap to the luxurious ones, from the sitting to the sleeping ones. They depart many times during the day, from the morning to the evening, so it is really easy for passengers to get one suitable for their schedule. Most of buses for this route take almost 3 hours travelling and the average ticket price for one person is $10 while the Limousine bus is aroun 14$/person.
From Ninh Binh to Hue
Train is the ideal transportation to travel from Ninh Binh to Hue, because during the travel you can witness many marvellous sightseeings of the northern Vietnam. There are 6 daily trains for this route operated by Vietnam Railways, departing at 8:17 am, 10:15 am, 11:20 am, 5:16 pm, 9:47 pm, and 10:25 pm. The journey will last from 10 to 12 hours. There is a wide range of tickets with different price, from $29 for the soft seat of the trains departing in the morning, to $55 for the soft sleeper of the trains departing at night.
To get from Ninh Binh to Hue historical city, you can also travel by bus. This is also the cheapest way. Buses run from Ninh Binh to Hue take more than 11 hours, the road distance between the two provinces is 564 km. You can go to the Bus Station in Le Dai Hanh, Thanh Binh to buy the local bus ticket and get in the bus. Or book the tourist bus via travel agency. You should choose the night buses (usually depart at 7 pm and arrive at 7 am), they are much more favorable, but if you want to enjoy the stunning landscape outside, choose daylight ones departing in the morning and you will arrive in Hue in the evening. From Ninh Binh to Phong Nha
There is no direct train from Ninh Binh to Phong Nha. If you still want to travel by train to enjoy the countryside landscapes during the journey, you have to take a train to Dong Hoi first, then take a taxi or public bus from Dong Hoi Railway Station which is 40 km south from Dong Hoi to Phong Nha. There are 6 daily trains from Ninh Binh to Phong Nha, which depart earliest at 8:17 am and latest at 10:25 pm, and arrive at Dong Hoi Railway Station after more than 7 hours. The ticket price is from $24 to $40. The bus station in Dong Hoi is only 15 minutes walking from the Railway Station, so you can reach there after getting off the train and purchase a bus ticket for a much lower cost than taxi. This extra travel takes around 1 hour and a half. The most favorable schedule is to take night train from Ninh Binh to Dong Hoi, then take an early morning bus from Dong Hoi to Phong Nha, so that you can save both your time and money to travel and discover Phong Nha the whole next day.
It is also recommended to take a sleeper bus from Ninh Binh to Phong Nha, it is the fastest and most convenient way. The buses drop passengers right at the main street of Phong Nha. The buses for this route actually depart from Hanoi and stop to pick passengers in Ninh Binh. Most of them leave Ninh Binh around 9 pm and arrive in Phong Nha at 4 or 5 am in the next day. So you will spend only more than 7 hours on bus. Hung Thanh is one of the good choices for this bus route. The average price ticket is around $18.
From Ninh Binh to Hoi An
There is also no train going straight from Ninh Binh to Hoi An. If you want to visit this ancient town by train, purchase a train to Da Nang city, a famous coastal city about 30 km north to Hoi An, then continue with a shuttle bus or taxi to the destination. The 6 trains operated by Vietnam Railways departing daily from Hanoi stop at Ninh Binh at 8:17 am, 10:15 am, 11:20 am, 5:16 pm, 9:47 pm, and 10:25 pm then take you to Da Nang Railway Station after 12-15 hours. The train ticket price for this route is from $34 to $50 (different price for different kind of seat).
And another option is bus, the advantage of this way is that it takes you directly to Hoi An center. There are various companies operating bus run on this route, you can ask some agencies around for help. The journey will last about 15 hours, since this is a long journey, there are some stops along for food or toilet. The average price of sleeper bus from Ninh Binh to Hoi An is $23-25, this is a good way to get from Ninh Binh toi Hoi An as save some money for travelling.
From Ninh Binh to Nha Trang
Beside plan, train is the best option to travel from Ninh Binh to Nha Trang, you can not only enjoy the fantastic countryside beauty outside but also save money since it is overnight train. This route takes from 22 to 24 hours traveling. There are trains for this route every day, departing at 8:17 am, 10:15 am, 11:20 am, 5:16 pm, and 9:41 pm. The ticket price is around $63 for a soft sleeper, and it is also the only available type of seat for this route on the trains.
Another way is to take an open bus. The buses departing from Hanoi will pick you up in Ninh Binh, then they will have around 4 hour stop at Hoi An and continue from Hoi An to Nha Trang City (totally bus trip takes 27 hours not including 4 hours stop in Hoi An). So you have to spend more than one day travelling. The bus price can be around $33 for one person.
From Ninh Binh to Quy Nhon
There is no railway station in Quy Nhon City, you need to get off in Dieu Tri, then take a bus or taxi to Quy Nhon City. Like from Ninh Binh to Nha Trang, there is only soft sleeper available for this route and its price is $57. The 5 daily trains operating by Vietnam Railway (departing at 8:17 am, 10:15 am, 11:20 am, 5:16 pm, and 9:41 pm) need around 20 hours to get to Dieu Tri Railway Station from Ninh Binh.
Bus is not a favorable kind of transportation for this route since the travelling time is so long, more than 1 day, the road distance is more than 950 km. But if you want to save a little money, you can purchase an open bus ticket, a bit cheaper than by train. Bus will take you t to Quy Nhon, so you don’t have to purchase for another route from Dieu Tri to Quy Nhon. The price can be from $28 to $35 depending on local bus or tourist bus.
From Ninh Binh to Saigon
Travelling from the north to the south of the country by train is a long way like from Ninh Binh to Saigon. You will definitely have a chance to witness a lot of beautiful scenes of every region of Vietnam, from the fields, mountains to sea and stunning beaches. There are 5 trains operating by Vietnam Railways (departing at 8:17 am, 10:15 am, 11:20 am, 5:16 pm, and 9:41 pm) run from Ninh Binh to Saigon everyday. The whole journey will last from 29 to 34 hours. The ticket price is $74 for a soft sleeper, other classes like hard-sleeper or soft-seat air condition are cheaper. Another way is to catch an open bus departing from Ninh to Saigon. The price is pretty cheaper than train, around $50 but it stops along some destination such as Hue-Hoi An-Nha Trang thus it’s good choice for ones who travel leisurely. You will need totally 35-38 hours to travel. Hung Thanh bus, Camel bus are the two popular companies operating such routes. Their buses depart at 2 am or 4 am, then arrive in Saigon at 1 pm (+2) or 6 pm (+2).
