Myanmar visa is the top thing that tourists need to prepare before Visiting Myanmar, tourists can not only explore the fantastic Land of Golden Pagodas, but also have a chance to blend yourself into the daily life and experience the unique customs of this wonderful and mysterious country. But surely, before getting into the country, you would have to go through the process of getting yourself a visa first. And this is our advice for you in doing that as easy and worries-free as possible.
According the law, most foreign nationals require a visa to enter Myanmar. Visa-free travel for 14 days is permitted for Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam passport holders, and for 30 days for Singapore passport holders. You can apply for a visa at the embassy or consulate in your country, border gate of Myanmar or the airport.

At your nearest Myanmar embassy or consulate

One single-entry tourist visa costs about US$50, varied in your nationality, and is valid for 28 days, which can be extended to 14 days further with the fee of US$3 per day. Besides 2 ID photos required for the application, make sure that your passport is valid for a minimum six months after your departure from Myanmar and to prepare all the required documents before applying at the embassy or consulate.
It typically takes up to two weeks for the embassy to process your application. Therefore, do not apply too late, in case it takes longer than usual, but not too early, as the period for entry may range from only one to three months. So starting the process a month before your planned arrival will be safe enough.
There are slightly differences in the requirements of documents in different countries, so make sure to check with the nearest Myanmar embassy about its specific application requirements.
If you cannot get your Myanmar visa before leaving your home country, you can do it in Thailand, in either Bangkok, which is not that complicated. The visa service at the Myanmar embassy is open from 9 a.m to 12 p.m every weekday. You would need two passport photos and a photocopy of your passport. If you want to get the visa in the same day of application, you will need a copy of your flight ticket to Myanmar as well. Then you can pick up your visa between 3.30 p.m and 4.30 p.m. It costs 1600 Thai baht (about US$50) for tourist visa.

Apply e-visa

Besides, the e-visa is also available at Myanmar’s Ministry of Immigration and Population e-visa website for citizens from 100 countries that do not have a Myanmar embassy. All you have to do is going to the website, follow the instruction to fill in the application form, then confirm and pay. You will get your approval letter within 3 days, which you will print out and give to the passport official on upon your arrival at the airport or border crossing to be stamped into the country.
However, note that e-visa is only valid for entry at three main international airports, which are Mandalay, Yangon, and Nay Pyi Taw, and Thai-Myanmar border points of Mae Sot, Ranong and Mae Sai.

Through travel agencies

To save your time and effort, you can also use the visa service from many travel agencies. When using this kind of service, you will be guided on how to fill in the application, which documents you need to prepare. They will also help you to have your documents translated, notarized and submitted to the embassy or consulate. Obviously, this way would cost you some extra fee compared to the conventional way, but it will make sure you get your visa in a short time without too much effort and worries from your part.
Note that because of the sensitive political situation, restrictions on entering and exiting Myanmar is quite strict. If you enter Myanmar via Tachilek, Kawthoung, Myawaddy or Htee Khee-Sunaron border points, you are able to exit the country via Rangoon or Mandalay International Airport. However, if you enter Myanmar through the Muse or Tamu border points, you must depart at the point from which you entered.
