Located in Nguyen Hue, Con Dao, Ba Ria – Vung Tau, Vietnam, in the whole Con Dao prison system, Phu Tuong Con Dao camp was considered as the most mysterious area that the colonists had built in Vietnam. For the purpose of creating clusters around the tiger cage isolation to torture and torment the revolutionary soldiers of Vietnam, Phu Tuong/French Tiger cage truly delivers the direness and hardships of Vietnamese soldiers from the past.

Phu-Tuong-Con-Dao-Camp

Phu Tuong Con Dao Camp/French Tiger cage was built in 1940. With a total area of 5.804m2, the camp consists of 8 cells divided into two ranges and there are auxiliary works such as kitchen, Infirmary, and garden. This prison was built in conjunction with Camp 5 encircling the “French tiger cage” to carry out evils, and punishing the prisoners until they dead. In 1952, Phu Tuong camp was used to detain newly captured prisoners of the war brought to the island and people infected with the disease. In 1959, the puppet government transferred more than 1,500 political prisoners in here to detention.

In 1979, the Phu Tuong Con Dao camp was recognized by the Ministry of Culture and Information as a special monument of Vietnam because of its historical value delivered to many domestic and international tourists. Like other camps in Con Dao, Phu Tuong Con Dao camp was the home to many generations of communists, and left much blood and tears from the heroic soldiers. Today, the Phu Tuong Con Dao camp has become the evidence of crimes committed by the French colonialists and American imperialists through two fierce wars in Vietnam, expressing the sincere gratitude to Vietnamese heroes who have sacrificed for the future of the country.
