Located in the Thanh Noi, at 3, Le Truc Street, Hue province, Hue Imperial Museum of Royal Antiquities is the earliest established museum in Hue, in 1923, with its first name as Musee ‘Khai Dinh. After that, it was changed five times: Hue Ancient Temple (since 1947, under the Central Council). Hue Museum (under Ngo Dinh Diem). Museum of Antiques (since 1979). Antiques Museum of Hue (since 1992). Hue Fine Arts Museum (since 1995).
The Hue Imperial Museum is the well-known place for the ancient collections of bronze, porcelains, stone ware, drabs, crowns and belongings of the Nguyen Kings.
The main building of The Hue Imperial Museum is to display the typical artifacts with nearly 1,200m². This building was originally named as Long An built in 1845 under Thieu Tri King. The building itself is a beautiful wooden structure, with 128 wooden pillars.
The whole of the wooden parts of the building carved out hundreds of classical paintings with image of sacred animals: dragons, unicorn, turtles, phoenixes … and more than 1,000 poems in Chinese characters. Many researchers have rated this as one of the most beautiful palaces in Vietnam.
In this palace, there are about 300 precious objects in gold, silver, jade, porcelain, porcelain, wood … From there, tourists can see the king’s desk, chair, palanquin, bed, cabinet, the shoes, costume of king, queen, princess, prince … All the artifacts displayed at the museum are valuable artworks that are carefully and skillfully crafted by artisans.
