Every visitor must bring their visas unless they come from one of the visa exempt countries. Their passport needs to be valid for 6 months and one empty page. So what are visa exempt countries in Cambodia? They are:

  • Brunei (14 days)
  • Indonesia
  • Laos
  • Malaysia
  • Philippines (21 days)
  • Seychelles (14 days)
  • Singapore
  • Thailand (14 days)
  • Vietnam

The holders of normal passports of the above countries do not require a visa for Cambodia for up to 30 days.

If you are not from these countries, there are two types of visas available to you.

1. Cambodian tourist visa

The tourist visa is the best option for those who intend to stay in Cambodia for less than 30 days. To get the tourist visa, you need to pay $30. The visa is only single entry. You can renew it once for 30 days more for $45. After that, the holder must leave Cambodia and come back to obtain a new visa. The minimum stay is about 24 hours if the Cambodia visa is issued at Siem Reap airport.

2. Cambodian ordinary visa

For those who know that they will stay in Cambodia for an extended period of time, it is best to apply for an E-class visa. There used to be one E-class visa called as the “ordinary” or “business” visa. However, a new set of E-class visa with 4 types has become available since 2017. However, it is noted that there are no relation to the electronic visa that you may confuse. Anyone can get any of the four E-class visas: an EB, EG, ER or ES visa. And you need to provide any appropriate paperwork for immigration police if required.

The difference between the tourist visa and the ordinary visa is that the ordinary can be indefinitely extended.

Another question may be asked is how to apply for a Cambodian visa. In order to apply for a visa to Cambodia, you need a passport valid for at least six months with at least one blank page and a passport-size photo. If you don’t have any photos, you can pay $2 and they will scan your passport’s photo. You can go to the following places to apply for a Cambodian visa.

At the airport

You can get a visa on arrival at the Siem Reap, Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville airports if you are from most countries. You don’t need to do anything in advance because you will be given the paperwork on the plane then you just need to get on line on arrival with the passport and photos, cash (US dollars).

At a Cambodian embassy

The second available option for you is at a Cambodian embassy. If you want to get your visa in advance or you are from these countries: Algeria, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Sudan or Sri Lanka, you can visit the nearest Cambodian embassy.

You can expect to pay between $1 and $20 to get your visa at a land border crossing in Cambodia.

Apart from above options, you can also obtain an online Cambodian visa with the total price of $40 or you can visit a tourist company but you need to pay more for service fees.
